This month in Australia, many children (along with their parents) will be looking forward to their first day of school. This time can be filled with much emotion and anticipation but as parents we can help to make the transiiton to school and those first few days of school a little easier.

Dahl - a great dish to share or enjoy at home! Inspiration from the Commonwealth Games....
We've added a fantastic recipe sheet for Dahl that is perfect for children and adults! How about having an Indian themed day (or week)? Talk about clothes that are traditionally worn in India, different foods that families eat and create an Indian themed activity - maybe bollywood inspired dance!

What is your favourite thing about spring?
Now that we are in the midst of spring (and the sky is bursting with sunshine) it is a great time to celebrate Spring. What is your child's favourite thing about Spring?
Is it the flowers blooming? Baby lambs, piglets and chicks? Or the new sprouts of vegetables planted in the garden?

How to encourage your young child to enjoy books

Spring has sprung - so have the insects!
Spring Activity Ideas for Children
With the warmer weather comes a growing number of creepy crawlies in the garden. It is a great time to look at the different varieties of insects and bugs and have some fun!
- Take a walk outside and see how many bugs you can find
- Find an insect and count it's wings and legs
- Create an insect chart - how many?, where are they found?
- Create a butterfly painting or an egg carton caterpillar
- Watch bees collecting their pollen and talk about how honey is made
- Reading ideas - The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle or Bugs are Insects by Anne Rockwell and Steve Jenkins
